Weather Forecasts
Wonderful Weather Skits
And their development…
The weather skits were fun, but they were a lot of hard work. We followed this process to make our own weather skit…
• First we filled out a packet of weather scenarios to later use.
• Then we choose working partners.
• We looked over the rubric- It told us requirements (four to seven slides, cloud type, temperatures, etc.).
• Fourth we both picked or made up a weather scenario from the packet we both already filled out .
• Next filled out the predicted weather temperatures for the day/scenario we were working on.
• Sixth we took paper and filled out the slides we wanted to use for the video.
• Then we went down to the computer lab and used Excel to create and fill in our predicted temperatures, later turning them into graphs – also using Excel.
• Eighth, we went to PowerPoint and started making the slides we drew
1. Making the background weather-like
2. Choosing pictures to go along with the slide, (including the graph we made)
3. Writing information on the slides
4. Printing out the slides and writing on the script
• Then we practiced our parts – memorizing every other slide (some partners did one then you, then your partner…).
• Then we picked out our weather forecaster outfits.
• Next, we taped everything we had been practicing over the past week.
• After everyone taped we watched the whole fifth grades skits.
Here are the forecasts students created as they wrapped up their study of weather. We have some future meteorologists here!

The forecasts were filled with strong weather vocabulary and many of you were able to add your own style with costumes and fun gestures. I was impressed by your added movie transitions and the professional look all were able to create. Hope you enjoyed the premiere this afternoon – I was glad I could catch-up on line! Don’t forget to show your families and friends over break!!!

Wow, What a multi-layered project! I noticed Excel graphs on wind chill and temperatures, creative script writing based on research, i-movie editing, with titles, transitions, sound effects, intro music, collaboration, and all under the umbrella of a “weather unit study”! Move over Al Kaprillian! Great job 5th grade!

Great job kids! Here in Norway it’s raining. Perhaps I’m your first visitor from Norway. It’s a great place to visit (May is usually nice weather).

I love the videos. They came out so good and look so proffesional. I like how some people used sound effects to make the presantation seem more interesting. A lot of technology was put into this project. (at least it looks like it).
Yay! Good Job!
I could never make a video and make it look that proffesional. At first I thought that it was a real weather forcast with smaller forecasters.

Great job using technology to demonstrate your learning – They look very professional – Do you think that a weather show for Channel 22 is a possibility? I think you have what it takes!
