Hey, guys.
Sorry it’s taken me so long to blog. My family is having a hard time catching up with the time zone. When I look back on the last few days, my mind won’t let me comprehend more than my tired body can handle. We’ve done a lot for the first few days. Last night, I regrettably stayed up until one in the morning. Time looses meaning for Egyptians. A few nights ago, people showed up on my grandmother’s doorstep at maybe eleven at night. (See what I mean?) I’ve spent a lot of time with my cousin, Mohummad. But, without further adue, here is what’s been going on in the last few days.
The planeride (is that one word or two? Please don’t tell me I have a typo!) was a twelve hour claustrophobia festival, with a lot of boring mixed in, so I’m sure you don’t want to hear me complain. When we got to my grandmother’s, we took one look around and crashed for four hours. (It was the middle of the afternoon.) Not much happened after that. The next day, yesterday, everybody started showing up at ten A.M. And by everybody, I mean, my cousin, his parents, a different uncle and a different aunt, and of course my grandmother and my family. (You can’t forget that my family has six people in it. Yeah, that little detail.) And as the summer progresses, the amount of people will keep piling on. We are soon to see one other family of cousins, which also consists of six people, and a family of four, who were friends when I lived in Atlanta. All together, thats…22 people in my grandmother’s fairly small flat. Anyhoo, we fooled around yesterday until seven P.M. (For those of you sports and video game fans, my cousin whipped my butt in a soccer game on his playstation.) Then we went to a club my grandmother belongs to. We were all excited about playing soccer, but the people guarding the field wouldn’t let us in! (Something about not having cards?!) That made me pretty angry, but we got to go bowling. (I won.) Then we just went back home and watched sports. My siblings went to bed at midnight, and I went to bed at one. (Regrettably.)
Can I ask you guys a favor? Can you get people in 5M and 5CJ to read this. It would mean a lot to me, because I want all of my friends to be able to see this. And please comment back to me. I want to hear what’s going on back at home. I think I am going to the pyramids in the next couple of days, so I’ll send some pictures, and my next comment, in an email. (Yes, T, I’ll bring back some sand.) I may not be able to comment every day, because I my not have access to a computer, or there may not be much to talk about.
NOT enjoying the Egypt heat,
Your traveling friend.

How is Egypt? I bet it is hot there because I know that it is hot here. Thanks for the comment that you sent. It was very long, but it was very detailed. Have a good time.

I can’t believe that it is the second to last week of school! Where has the time gone? It feels like just yesterday was the first day of school. Summer vacation is around the corner but the heat is already here. I will miss the great classmates and teachers this year. I have learned so much from everyone. But, I am looking forward to sixth grade.

Hey is it fun there? Well, I sure hope so. Keep leaving little things of information about Egypt. Do you have a lot of family members there now? Well, make sure you have enough room.
June 9th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Hey Z whats up it’s R, how is Egypt? Can you send us pictures of where you are like the pyramids? T is so happy that you are bringing back sand for him. What color is it? Can you bring some back for me too? PLEASE!!!!! Tell your family and your cousins we said “Hi”.
We want you to know that 5SW is not the same without you. We are going to miss you on the field trips and the character breakfast/night games. I can’t wait to see you in the summer so we can play at the beach (whiffle ball).
When you go to see the pyramids try to send us a picture of that huge cat thing without getting hurt.
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU AGAIN YOUR BUDDY, R.

Hi, what’s up?
We all listened to your very long letter. It seems to be very hot there. Today we had 3 fans in here and it still was hot and sticky, but it must be hotter there than it is here anyways………what is it like to be there? Is it cool to see the actual pyramid?

Traveling friend! How is Egypt? I hope that you are having a great time. The comment you left was very exciting to hear. I heard that you are playing some soccer there. We had Sting try-outs a few days ago. We are going to be good. It is extremely hot here so I know how you’re feeling right now. Does the time difference stink in Egypt because it is so many hours off of what ours is? Have you seen any historic things? How is your family? Well, I don’t have any more questions but I hope you enjoy your far away trip!
Your friend, #10

Hey traveling friend, I think we were all very sad when you left. WE WERE SWEEPING AWAY THE FLOOR WITH TEARS! How hot is it there in Egypt? Is it in the hundreds? IS IT YO EE OR YO HIGH? Do you have any friends in Egypt besides family? Our teachers, you know who, will email you our computer #’s so you will know who is emailing or as you say “blogging you”!?!?! Well, for now, have fun in Egypt and have fun. Try to write back and soon! PS: do your cousins speak English? Can you tell us some words in Egyptian language! I think it sounds really cool! Have fun and also enjoy the pyramids!

Dear Z,
I can’t believe that people over there are wide awake at eleven at night! I can’t even stay up past ten at night. How do you feel about having people on you door step at eleven at night? I bet its weird. I need to go, talk to you later.

Farewell person of whom has left us, I hope you have fun in Egypt. The pyramids sound like fun but make sure you see the sphinx too. I hear it’s a fun monument to see. If your lucky enough you can get close enough to it without it “sniffing” you out. Please do not forget the sand. Everyone in class already misses you.
Since you might not go to Egypt again in a while I suggest you have fun with all the famous things there such as:
sailing down the Nile, climbing the pyramids, petting the sphinx and putting a handful of sand in a bag and bringing it back for your friend.
Your Friend,
P.S. Please don’t forget the sand. It’s very special to me for some reason but I don’t know that reason yet.

Dear Traveling Friend,
I am so happy to be hearing from you after you have only been in a far away place for only like what 4 days. It seems like you are having such a fun time visiting your family. Have you been dancing or did we show you how to do the gratitude dance for no reason??? The classroom is totally different without you because there is no one to make fun of airplane food or to say “yo hi” just as you said it. I really miss you, but I think you would rather be in Egypt then have to sit in a hot classroom!!! I can’t wait to hear about the pyramids!!!

Dear Z,
How is Egypt??!! THanks so much for the letter! And it didn’t take long at all for you to blog us-so don’t feel bad!!!! It’s been around 90 degrees all weekend and tomorrow it’s supposed to be even hotter! It must be, like, 120 degrees everyday where you’re staying, though. So, I guess (compared to you) we have it better, heat-wise. It seems like your having a lot of fun playing with your cousins and other relatives. And its a bummer you didn’t get to play soccer on that field, but I had a soccer game and it was not fun (1 sub, and a hundred thousand billion degrees)!! Playing with my cousins would have been soooooooooooooo much more fun. (I almost wrote “funner” haha you would have killed me for that-just like com-po-zit ha)!!
we all miss you!

Are there any pools? I was dying here, and I can’t imagine the heat where you are!!! Have a good time in Egypt!

5SW-
First I want to say thank you for all your wonderful comments. Unfortunately, there has been a change of plans. I will not be going to the pyrimads or the Sphinx for another week. Tommorrow we are leaving for Marsa Matrooh (pronounced MARSA metroo(t)h) which is a village on the Mediterranian Sea. This is really the first touristy thing we are doing, but I like it that way. It gives me taste of the culture as well as the things that you would think to do when you are in Egypt.
But I think I should give you an overview of Cairo. It’s dusty, dirty, and loud. ALL THE TIME! Yesterday it was abbout 105 degrees ferinheit, which is not exceptionally hot for egypt. There is so much pollution. (These guys need to learn to go green!) And it smells. Really bad. It’s overpopulated, and there is no open space. It’s also kind of akward, because everyone speaks Arabic, which I speak very little of.
Oh, who am I kidding, I love the place.
I don’t know why, but I’ve always been drawn to Cairo. People here are carefree, and even in the worst of times everyone seems to have a smile on their faces. It’s a loose attitude. It’s relaxing. All of your summer trips should be to Cairo! (Do I sound too much like a commercial?)
Not much has been going on, so I’ll answer some questions that you guys sent. Egypt is great, but it’s REALLY HOT. Yesterday and the day before that it was 105 degrees! It’s hard to do anything here, including sleep, because of the heat. Unfortunately, there are no pools of which we have access to, but there is one in Marsa Matrooh. Some words in Arabic are: ahlaan means hi, shukran means thank you, afwan means you’re welcome, ah means yes, naam means what, laah means no, ismac eh means what is your name, zyak means how are you, an yullah means lets go. No, T, you can’t climb the pyrimads, and no, 11, funner is not a word. I actually am doing a little dancing, (music is like 99% of the culture!) but not gratitude dancing. Teachers, can you please, in an email, send me who is what number. (I took a guess at who eleven is. Composite is a dead giveaway!)
Oops, my greatuncle just got here. Got to go. Enjoy the last two weeks of school!
Cairo smells bad,
Your traveling friend.
