Hard to believe our SWell group of 5SWers are graduating from 8th grade! Time has flown SWiftly since you were SWerving around the 5th grade classrooms and learning and dancing up a storm! We just want you all to know how much of an impact that you each (individually) and your class (as a whole) had on us as teachers. Revisiting this blog reminds us of what a unique group of positive, enthusiastic and fun learners you all were and obviously continue to be! Don’t lose that spark as you all journey off to continue your learning adventures. Who knew our once in a lifetime teaching opportunity would bring us a once in a lifetime class? Stay in touch, we’ll remember you always!
Fondly,
Ms. Schmidt & Mrs. Wyman

OK 5SWers… Your 5th grade teachers want to wish you the best as you head off to your first day in 6th grade. Please remember to stop by and visit us! We’re excited to see and hear what you are up to in 6th grade. We’ll be looking for your 6th grade blog entries! Keep on blogging (and dancing)! It’s back…just what you’ve been waiting for! More math in the PM! So…here is the 2nd challenge. Share HOW you solved these puzzles and which one(s) you were un/able to solve. What were some good strategies you found helpful? Enjoy! Yes, your teachers are a little more techno savvy after attending the National Education Computing Conference (NECC) in San Antonio. We certainly had a few opportunities to brag about our swell blogging class! Here are some pictures of what we did and saw… ***Can you name any of the sites we got to see in San Antonio? Check the pictures for clues.*** While your teachers were in San Antonio, we saw a great sculpture created from used aluminum cans. What a great way to recycle…into art! OK – I know you are all aching for some “Math in the PM”…well, here is a problem to solve. Yes, the answer can be found on the site, but I’m not looking for the answer. HOW did you solve it? Try to explain! If you have not solved it yet, don’t check the comments from your classmates as they might explain how they solved it… So here is a link to the problem: Have fun! NCTM With all of the thunderstorms we’ve had in the past few weeks, there have been some great clouds! Remember the cumulonimbus clouds? The “granddaddy” of all clouds? Well, check these pictures out, as seen from above the earth: Image from Image Science & Analysis Laboratory, NASA Johnson Space Center via bosoton.com Our librarian helped to introduce you to some books that were recommended summer reading through the North Hampton Public Library. Some other links are posted to the right under “Reading”. Hope this helps. Keep sending your recommendations and we’ll post them! Happy reading. Here is some information about another reading program…you can earn money while reading! Your teachers would like to thank you for a wonderful year. We especially enjoyed the last day surprise party that you organized for us. We were touched by all of the hard work and planning you put into that day. We also loved reading the thoughtful comments added to the blog. You all certainly have some great advice for the upcoming 5th graders. We look forward to a summer filled with fun, learning and of course, blogging! Blog on! We can’t wait to hear what adventures you are all up to over the summer, so stay in touch! What advice would you give a student entering the classroom of 5SW? |
